10 Minute Mile

Run 32: Wednesday 6/24/09
Weather: upper 60's and mostly sunny

I didn't exactly have a plan when I hit the trail today. I just knew that I've been trying to work speed into my runs. I decided to time how long it takes me to go a mile or half mile, and pushed myself to go faster than I would normally. Until recently, I haven't paid attention to speed at all... just whatever it takes to KEEP GOING.

I ran a full mile in just over 10 minutes! The only way I managed that was by really increasing my speed for the last 2 minutes. Then, after a short walk break (as I was decidedly out of breath from the aforementioned effort), I ran a half mile in 4:40. Once more around a half mile loop in 5:20.

I guess that means that at any given time, I am running somewhere between a 9 minute mile and an 11 minute mile. Not bad, for a beginner. Shoot, I'm just happy to be running at all! :D
